Ptereleotris zebra

The Zebra Bar Dartfish is a peaceful, reef-safe species admired for its sleek form and striking striped pattern. Its elongated body features a silvery-white base accented with bold horizontal-colored bars that extend from head to tail, creating the signature “zebra” appearance. Its large, translucent fins and slender profile give it a graceful, darting swimming style that adds movement and elegance to any reef aquarium. In the wild and in aquariums, Zebra Bar Dartfish hover just above sandy or rubble substrates, retreating quickly to burrows or crevices when threatened. In captivity, they thrive in tanks with open swimming areas, fine sand, and plenty of rockwork for shelter. While generally peaceful toward other species, a covered tank is essential, as they are agile jumpers. They feed readily on a variety of meaty foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and quality frozen preparations. Frequent small feedings help maintain their vibrant coloration and active behavior. Growing to about 4–5 inches, the Zebra Bar Dartfish is an excellent addition to community and reef aquariums, offering both striking visual appeal and lively, midwater activity that brings energy and charm to the tank.
